Naples Design District is celebrating Naples’ centennial March 1 with a lineup of free events, including an art unveiling, a scavenger hunt, and special food and shopping deals.
The district is located between Fifth Avenue South to Seventh Avenue North and the East side of US 41 to Goodlette Frank Road. The Community Redevelopment Agency officially branded and named NDD more than four years ago, but the district has operated for years prior. It was formerly known as 41-10.
NDD officials are steadily working on the district’s master plan, which includes beautifying the area with art and foliage, adding more parking and sidewalks, and improving the draining system.
The NDD Centennial Celebration officially begins at 2 p.m., but NDD President Elizabeth Kurtz says the area’s shops and restaurants will offer special deals all day.
“For the Naples Design District, everything’s free,” Kurtz said. “We just want people to come here and be part of our community.”
At 2 p.m., guests can start a scavenger hunt that will take them around NDD visiting local spots for clues.
“Through this whole walk through the district they’re learning historical facts about the city of Naples that they might have never heard,” Kurtz said. “It’s a great way for the community, the visitors, to kind of stroll through and stop by our members who they might have never heard of.”
The scavenger hunt is free and the first few people who complete it will win a prize.
Location: Starts at IN’Dulge, 1053 Ave N.Time: 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Kurtz is hosting a social event at The Collective, a design hub in the district.
New NDD restaurant Warren American Whiskey Kitchen will provide refreshments and dessert for guests as they learn about the railroad history of Naples Depot.
Guests can also design their own flower bouquet with Kurtz Homes Naples and buy discounted tickets for shows at performance venue Gulfshore Playhouse.
Location: The Studio at the Collective, 111 10th St. S, second floorTime: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
At 5:30 p.m., district officials will unveil three art pieces at Garden District. There were five pieces originally, but two did not make it through flooding from Hurricane Ian.
The art pieces are collaborative projects between members of NDD.
“It’s different than Third Avenue; it’s different than Fifth Avenue,” Kurtz said about NDD. “It’s just a unique area with history. And we’re trying not to over develop it too much. But we’re just excited to unveil these pieces that night, talk a little bit about the future of the district.”
Location: 137 10th St. NTime: 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
NDD is rounding out the night with a celebration at design studio and art gallery Method & Concept. Officials will unveil a new sculpture garden and new art.
Warren American Whiskey Kitchen will cater the event, which is free to the public.
