Text Event Pics Makes Event Photo Sharing a Breeze
Designed to be used without an app, the text-based service assigns groups and events a unique phone number which attendees may “text event pics” to, in a secure online browser that may be live-streamed and instantly viewed at events for shared engagement.
“Anyone who can take a photo and send a text can now participate in an event, no app required,” said Ron Ginn, Text Event Pics founder. “This is a service that can be used for any event, large or small, and for all attendees no matter their phone provider or level of technical skill. It’s instant, secure and easy to use.”
Ginn began the design of Text Event Pics while planning his own wedding, having considered the traditional use of disposable cameras on tables. This tactic proved to be expensive and outdated, and gathering cell phone photos from hundreds of guests proved to be a challenge.
“I had been playing with telecom software, so with that in mind while doing the dishes one night I thought ‘Why don’t we just ask everyone to text photos to a specific phone number, and then I can get the pictures on a web page automatically to share easily, but only within our group,’” said Ginn. “As my wife was planning for our wedding, several couples requested the service, so we decided we should build a website where people can do the same for their own events.”
Development of the platform was implemented, and Text Event Pics was born. Testing the service on his wedding, guests were able to snap photos from their phones and text them into the event phone number on the spot, displaying a real-time slideshow on a big screen for instant enjoyment. Photos are immediately accessible to any event user to view from the event’s account, so information is safely and securely stored in one place.
Larger businesses, corporations and even educational institutions have found the service to be a key solution in capturing photos from events in a compliant manner without the risk of social media sharing and publicly accessible data. Pictures may be moderated by the event host to ensure content added from guests is appropriate while adding an enhanced experience for events.
“The service really made a huge difference in how our guests were engaged,” said Dennis Fouty, CIO, University of Houston. “And we only had to have a professional photographer for some parts of the event. It saved us a bunch of money.”
